Drawing on the bus

So since the end of June I have been doing game testing out at Microsoft in Redmond. Getting out to Redmond is a bit of a task when you have no car and live on Capitol Hill in Seattle. Needless to say I used and abused the ORCA card that comes with employment at Microsoft. The bus rides themselves weren't terrible (when I had a seat), but they were certainly long. As a result I got in the habit of drawing the other riders. Below are some of the sketches.

Junior Giants

Last semester Lori Schkufza and I were tasked with doing an alternate (2D) take on a project for the Junior Giants. The Junior Giants are a youth baseball group in the Bay Area. The project was an introductory to what the Juinor Giants were, following a young boy named Mikey on his first day. Below are the character designs drawn up by Lori and another student, Ash Baharin. And below that are the completed boards for the short.

Whoops

So I've been doing the drawings, I just forgot to post them here, so let me play a bit of catch-up. And see if I can still manage to make the post look nice. I've been doing a lot of character sketches, and just continually toying around with color application digitally.

Life as a reference

Well I recently found myself needing to come up with a color scheme for a not so pleasant looking creature. Which first meant getting myself a good version of the unnamed creature drawn up. If I had been thinking ahead I would have saved screen shots of the process, but I wasn't, so all you're getting is the flat color version. I was a bit stumped with colors, but lucky for me I was in the process of watching Life on the Discovery Channel. To my surprise, they were talking about a certain species of plant that just so happened to play a large role in the creature I was coloring. And so here we have the unnamed creature in all it's glory. Subsequent drawings of the creature have changed certain aspects of it's design, but the colors have stayed the same.
